Frequently Asked Questions

You can contribute to this FAQ sharing your insights:

What is impansion?

Impansion is a new worldview based on the notion of complexity. It shows how complex experiences can develop without space or time as primary elements, thus changing the way we understand scientific theories.

What is impansion for? Why is it important?

Science alone falls short of creating a coherent and meaningful explanation for human life. Impansion helps us integrate science and art to enrich our sense of reality.

Is impansion a new scientific theory?

No. Impansion is not a scientific theory, but a general perspective inspired by shifts within science—from the dominance of physics to the emergence of complexity as a key idea.

What is impansion based on?

Impansion comes from an apparent contradiction: Expansion says that wholes contain parts; impansion suggests that parts contain wholes. For example, your atoms contain “you,” and you and I together contain “us.” This view resists mathematical description, making art and imagination especially valuable for its exploration.

How did the idea of impansion arise?

The term was coined by Andoni Irigoien, who drew on work across science and the arts. The idea took shape during a period of study and reflection in Africa. You can read more in the Author’s page.
